How to find meaningful volunteering expereinces for youth & young adults

Looking for meaningful volunteering opportunities for young adults?

Non Profits looking to work with youth AND youth seeking meaningful volunteer opportunities can now use Volunteer Canada’s new Building Blocks to Youth Volunteer Engagement to identify how to find great volunteering experiences!

Parents and teachers can use this tool learn how to identify the ways young adults can get involved and how they can support them in their search for volunteer opportunities.

Young adults and youth can use self-assessment tools to identify their skills and interests, and learn ways to apply their skills to volunteering.

 

These tools were designed in partnership with Manulife Financial, to address the barriers and opportunities to volunteer engagement outlined in the Bridging the Gap research report. There are also some really great tools and informative fact sheets to download here.

Volunteer Opportunity | Canmore Winter Carnival – VOLUNTEER TODAY!

Volunteer to be part of the team and contribute to this classic winter event!

The Canmore Winter Carnival is a celebration of the season and a popular community event in Canmore. This year, the Town of Canmore has partnered with the Best of Canmore, Canmore Downtown Business Association and the Canmore Nordic Centre to expand this exciting community event and to welcome participants of the 2012 International Biathlon Union Cup races being held at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

  • Traffic Control
  • Office Assistants

Approximate time commitment: average shift is 3 hours, many are shorter, you can most certainly sign up to do more than one shift!

Volunteer Opportunity | Take it to the Street – Banff Ball Hockey Tournie!

The inaugural SnowDays TAKE IT TO THE STREET ball hockey tournament is taking over Banff Avenue!

Game on!  Pull out your stick and get ready for the ball drop in Banff. Every Canadian loves street hockey so what could be better then playing it on Canada’s most famous main street. This February 11 & 12, come on out and show winter who’s boss and help bring this tournament to life!

Currently SnowDays is on the hunt for the keen sportsmen and women of Banff to volunteer.  Experience is not necessary, but a basic understanding of the great Canadian game of hockey will help!

Volunteer for Friday the 10th, Saturday the 11th or Sunday the 12th for the following positions:

  • Set-Up Crew
  • Snow Clearers
  • Scorekeepers & Off “Ice” Officials
  • Score Master
  • Time Master
  • Teardown Crew

What’s in it for you?

You’ll get your hands dirty with close-ups on all the action and go home with a commemorative t-shirt (that you’ll actually wear again!) as our way of saying thanks!

Lunch will be provided as well as an event crew party on Sunday evening after all the pack up is done. Time and location to be confirmed.

Volunteer Opportunity | Parks Canada Volunteer Supervisor – with accommodation!

You can help people coming from all over the world to volunteer in Canada’s premier National Park!

Do want to have an amazing experience this summer?

Come get your boots dirty on the trails and get your foot in the door at Parks Canada!

Banff National Park is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible Volunteer Supervisor for mid-May to at least the end of September 2012 in Banff, Alberta for Parks Canada.

There is only 1 volunteer position available with approximately a 500 hour commitment. Even though this is a volunteer (unpaid) position, it includes accommodation in Banff.

The focus of this role is to coordinate and implement the International Volunteer Program, working with Parks Canada staff and training and supervising international volunteers.

Although the role is designed for one person, a couple could be a good fit to share this volunteer role. (Please indicate if you are applying as a couple).
